My Discovery and Transformation Experience

I will forever be grateful to an organization called The Consulting & Educational Center Of NY, otherwise known as CEC. They are located in Farmingdale, Long Island and the work they do is totally changing lives and I know that they have changed mine for the better. I first, went to a four-day workshop back in August called Discovery, where you explore what is going on in your mind and what issues have gotten in your way. At that point, I realized one big breakthrough in my mind, that I had spent most of my life, always looking for the easy way out, being lazy, doing what was safe and comfortable in my life and just enough to get by, instead of going the extra mile, taking chances and being a man of my word. It was too easy to lie and manipulate people and it is never too late to change. I took what I learned from Discovery but knew that I needed to continue on into the next workshop, called Transformation, which was held last week.
Honestly, I came into Transformation with a lot of anxiety and self-doubt. What I had learned from Discovery was there, but the pressure of real life, referred to as the "drift" washed away a lot of the new found confidence. I was unsure if Transformation would help me and I frankly doubted if I was really deserving of help. In the first two days, I hardly gave any effort at all. I behaved like a dead man walking, but after some tough love from my "teammates" and the staff, which includes my girlfriend, Katie, I started to really come alive and gain a lot from the experience. From this point on, I have felt like a different man. No fear of looking anyone in the eye, which has always been my main social hang-up. I may have other issues to solve, but this one is certainly well understood at this point. The last two days of the workshop were very uplifting for me and I am so grateful to my 26 fellow teammates, the staff(including Katie) and Sylvia, the instructor, who kicked our ass for 3 days and made us feel like kings, for the other two. I am sad that I won't be able to do the next workshop, called Leadership now, but,I would highly recommend this program to anyone and I will continue to help my teammates and spread the word about CEC. They have seriously made a difference in my life and I will always be grateful.
If anyone is interested in more information, their website is www.selfdiscover.org or you can email them at cec@selfdiscover.org

Ten Years Later......

I've really never been much of a bandwagon guy, when it comes to posting blog entries or interacting in a social networking sense. I usually prefer to go by the beat of my own drum. I usually have a desire to stand out, though sometimes it's interpreted as stick out, like a sore thumb. Enough with the cliches, obviously tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of a day that I would rather soon forget, September 11, 2001. Just to reflect for a moment on that day, where I was and what I went through. I hosted karaoke the night before at a bar way uptown, near Columbia University. The gig ended at 3am. By the time I packed up my equipment and drove home to Maspeth, Queens, where I lived with my parents, it was 4am. When my mother woke me up at 8:50am, I said, "This better be for a good reason". She said, "No Paul, it's not a good reason", and she turned on my TV. What I saw was shocking and it jolted me awake. the 1st plane had hit the WTC. I immediately thought of my brother, Rocco, who was driving a tow truck in Manhattan and my father, who was driving a taxi cab in town, and if this would adversely affect their ability to get around downtown. Then, the 2nd plane hit the other tower and I said "Holy S#%t, we are being attacked!" and I really became nervous for everyone at that point. I hoped that the towers were strong enough to withstand the impacts and was shocked again, as each tower collapsed and was shaken with the thought of all those people dying and also thought of the people who were there to help rescue people(the fire fighters and police) who were lost. I was saddened with the thought of losing people that I knew. My mother was very worried about my father and brother, and if this would cause them to have difficulty getting home from Manhattan. Luckily, they both were smart enough to come home and were fine.
I do have to say that one event has made me be very cynical of what we've been told about that day. Why did 7 WTC collapse? I remember from my days working in that area, including as an office temp for Cantor Fitzgerald, that 7 WTC is about a block from towers 1 and 2. I don't see why that building collapsed when no planes hit it, and there's some other things that make me shake my head, but I don't want to go on a conspiracy rant.
I'll just say that the day is of course, something we can't forget and is another reminder that we should never take our lives for granted and we should always strive to be happy, because we never know how much time we have. By the same token, don't let fear prevent us from doing what we want with our lives. Have fun!

The Best Thing(Person)To Ever Happen To Me

I wish I had the proper words to explain to all of you, how much this certain blonde lady means to me. I was really convinced, for a long time, that either I was never good, or deserving enough, or just plain lucky enough, to find the type of caring, generous, unassuming, loving, creative, beautiful and friggin hilarious woman to be a part of my life as this one. She has been amazingly patient with both, the mistakes of my past catching up to me, financially and professionally(it's hard to completely wipe away a couple of decades of irresponsibility and laziness) and the few slip ups lately, where I haven't been my most sensible and honest. She has not given up on me, despite all of this, in fact, she has been amazingly understanding and forgiving. Thinking about this, and the way she always looks to brighten my spirits, makes me very emotional, because it's not something I am used to and it reminds me constantly, of how incredibly kind-hearted and thoughtful, a woman she is.
I just hope, beyond all hopes, that she is able to continue, to be as patient, understanding and supportive, in the future, as she has been over the approximate three months that we have been together. I am totally convinced that there is, or will be, no one else ever like her, again in my life, so I better not ever take her for granted. I better be on my game, period.....
